Sold to a new collector in Kagoshima, Japan “Tranquil Garden Study” is an original abstract nature painting inspired by exquisite Japanese gardens.
I’m thrilled to share that the original painting study of “Tranquil Garden” has been purchased by a new art collector in Kagoshima, Japan. This 36″ x 48″ abstract nature painting is part of my new collection of Japanese inspired artworks. It was created as a study for a much larger painting commission for a new hotel in Japan.
When creating a large scale painting, I will often explore different ideas about colour and composition on smaller canvases in preparation for the larger work of art. This is one of my favourites and it bacame the inspiration for the big paintings at the hotel.
If you’ve been following my artwork on social media, you’ll know that I’ve spent the past several months working on a very large commission project for The Halekulani Hotel and Resort, a brand new luxury hotel in Okinawa, Japan. The paintings arrived and have been installed in Shiroux, the hotel’s main restaurant led by two Michelin star, head chef Hiroyasu Kawate.
I’ve had several guests of the hotel send me messages and photos saying how much the love the paintings and I look forward to the day when I can visit and see them in person myself. Until then, I will have this collection of new paintings to keep me inspired.
‘Tranquil Garden Study” is an abstract landscape painting ispired by exquisite Japanese gardens. Several years ago on a trip to Tokyo, I had the pleasure of witnessing their beauty in person. These paintings are created with subtle shifts in colour and layers upon layers of history and texture, much like the gardens themselves. It’s easy to get lost in the details… I often do!
I invite you to take a closer look at ‘Tranquil Garden Study” so you can get a feel for what it might be like to experience in person.
As the light skims across the surface of the painted canvas, it creates unique highlights and shadows that change throughout the day bringing the painting alive on the canvas.
